Shri Hirabhai Thakkar
(July 11, 1918 - August 26, 2001)
Born in Vasana, Kheda — in the state of Gujarat — Shri Hirabhai Thakkar inherited a deep love for the Ramayana from his parents, Tribhuvandas and Revaba.
After 38 years of government service in India’s Revenue Department, Shri Hirabhai Thakkar retired as a deputy collector of the Gujarat Administrative Service in August 1976, at the age of 58. Following his retirement, he embarked on a deep spiritual journey. He served as the first president of the Theosophical Society of Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat.
Throughout his career and in retirement, he delivered numerous discourses on the Srimad Bhagavatam, the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, the Ramayan, and the Upanishads in various Indian states. Since 1985, he extensively toured the US, UK, and South Africa.
A born educator, he always had a blackboard in his discourses. His legacy endures through an inexhaustible wealth of knowledge spread across the community, encompassing seven books and hundreds of audio and video lectures. His books provide insight on the Bhagavad Gita and day to day life.
